Venice Film Festival 2018 Winners: Golden Lion Awarded to ‘ROMA,’ More Results Revealed

The 2018 Venice Film Festival has come to an end, and awards have been handed out to the best of this year’s fest. The prizes were selected by the festival’s jury for the year, which includes Jury President Guillermo del Toro, Sylvia Chang, Trine Dyrholm, Nicole Garcia, Paolo Genovese, Malgorzata Szumowska, Taika Waititi, Christoph Waltz, and Naomi Watts.

The Golden Lion, the top prize at the Venice Film Festival, was awarded to ROMA, directed by Alfonso Cuarón. Last year’s winner was The Shape of Water, which went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars. The Grand Jury Prize, the equivalent of second place, was given to The Favourite by Yorgos Lanthimos. The Silver Lion, a.k.a. Best Director, was handed out to Jacques Audiard for The Sisters Brothers. The winners of the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and Best Actress were given to Willem Dafoe for At Eternity’s Gate and Olivia Colman for The Favourite, respectively.
