The Cinema Audio Society (CAS), which rewards the best in sound mixing for film and television, announced their nominations for 2017 on Wednesday. CAS is considered the no. 1 precursor for Best Sound Mixing at the Oscars, which is traditionally one of the trickiest categories to predict. The movie categories are split into live-action, animated and documentary, while the TV categories include half-hour, one-hour, miniseries/TV movie and nonfiction.
The five live-action films nominated are Baby Driver, Dunkirk, The Shape of Water, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Wonder Woman. These could very well be the five films nominated for Best Sound Mixing at the Oscars, but the music-heavy Coco — nominated in the animated category — could also sneak in.
