Writers Guild Awards 2018: ‘Eighth Grade,’ ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ Surprise Wins

The Writers Guild Awards (WGA) took place Sunday night, handing out awards for the best writing in film, TV and more from 2018. Eighth Grade pulled off a stunning upset for Best Original Screenplay, with Bo Burnham becoming the first writer to win this category without even getting nominated at the Oscars since 2002. Can You Ever Forgive Me? won the Adapted Screenplay prize, and while it is nominated at the Oscars, this was certainly considered a shocking victory of its own. What does all this mean for the Oscars? Who knows!
