Visual Effects Society 2017 Winners: VES Picks ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’

The Visual Effects Society (VES), the top guild for visual effects in film and television, announced their winners for 2017 Tuesday night. War for the Planet of the Apes walked away with the top honor of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature. The same five films are nominated for this category and the Best Visual Effects category at the Oscars, so this certainly suggests War is the frontrunner to win at the Oscars as well. Dunkirk won the Supporting Effects award, while Coco won the Animated category.
