New York Film Critics Circle 2017 Winners: ‘Lady Bird’ Takes Top Prize

The New York Film Critics Circle announced their winners for 2017 on Twitter Thursday morning, and Lady Bird emerged victorious. The coming-of-age dramedy by Greta Gerwig won the prestigious Best Film prize, with Sean Baker winning Best Director for The Florida Project.

Remember, the winner of Best Film has not necessarily lined up with Best Picture at the Oscars, with past NYFCC winners including 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty, 2013’s American Hustle, 2014’s Boyhood, 2015’s Carol and 2016’s La La Land. So it’s not necessarily a marker of future Oscar success, but they do have fascinating choices.
