Los Angeles Film Critics Association 2017: ‘Call Me by Your Name’, ‘Shape of Water’ Get Big Bumps

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LACFA) announced their 2017 winners Sunday via Twitter, with Call Me by Your Name being revealed the winner of Best Picture, with the film’s director, Luca Guadagnino tying with The Shape of Water‘s Guillermo del Toro for Best Director. The films also shared the lead acting prizes, with CMBYN‘s Timothée Chalamet winning Best Actor and Shape of Water‘s Sally Hawkins winning Best Actress.

The Florida Project‘s Willem Dafoe continued his winning streak in Best Supporting Actor, having previously won at the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review. Supporting Actress went to NBR winner Laurie Metcalf, continuing her streak as well. Both are assuredly frontrunners for the Oscars. Dunkirk also earned its first win of the season, while Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri took several of the runner-up prizes after lackluster showings at previous critics awards.
