Costume Designers Guild 2017 Winners: ‘Shape of Water’, ‘I, Tonya’, ‘Wonder Woman’ Take Top Prizes [FULL LIST]

The Costume Designers Guild (CDG) Awards took place Tuesday night, doling out the best in costume design for film and television in 2017. Three of the five Oscar nominees for Best Costume Design were nominated here — Beauty and the Beast, Phantom Thread and The Shape of Water.

The Shape of Water won the CDG Award for Excellence in Period Film, beating Phantom Thread, while Beauty and the Beast lost Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film to Wonder Woman. We saw last year that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them lost at the CDG but went on to win at the Oscars, so there’s still a small window of opportunity for both Beauty and the Beast and Phantom ThreadI, Tonya, which, like Wonder Woman, was not nominated at the Oscars, won Excellence in Contemporary Film.
