2018 Gotham Award Nominations: ‘The Favourite’, ‘First Reformed’ Get Off to Early Start

The 2018 Gotham Award nominations were announced early Thursday, continuing this week’s big start to award season. The Gotham Awards, handed out by the Independent Filmmaker Project, reward the best in indie films from the past year. They do not share voters with the Academy Awards, but they often help independent films get the kind of traction to contend for the biggest prize in movies, as seen by some of last year’s nomineesCall Me by Your Name, Get Out, Lady Bird, The Florida Project, The Big Sick and Mudbound.

Among this year’s nominees, The Favourite and First Reformed lead with three nominations, followed by Eighth Grade, Hereditary, If Beale Street Could Talk, Madeline’s Madeline, Leave No Trace, Private Life, Sorry to Bother You and Support the Girls at two. The Gotham Awards will take place Monday, Nov. 26 in New York City, and will be streamed live.
